Patients and Public

The involvement and engagement of patients and the wider public is crucial to the development and successful operation of the Newcastle MIC.

Members of the VOICE (Valuing Our Intellectual Capital and Experience) research active citizens group have attended and contributed to our strategy meetings.
We have worked with members of VOICE to shape our website and the Newcastle MIC PPIE strategy.  You can read our full strategy here.

Patients sit on our Steering group for specific projects so our pipeline of activities is informed by their experiences.  Involving patients during these early stages of research enables us to develop innovative approaches and more effective studies based on their needs. See an example here.

In the future we will include the views of patients and the public when we are examining new enquiries from companies and academics so they can influence what studies we take forward.

We also undertake activities to engage with the wider community to inform them of the research we are undertaking in collaboration with technology developers.  We do this by producing case studies and hosting and attending events.
